Choose for Yourselves, Whom You Will Serve

SA14 - Choose for Yourselves, Whom You Will Serve

Jehovah lovingly created us with purpose and knows that true happiness comes from living by his standards. Despite Satan’s claims, history shows human rule fails, while those who serve Jehovah..., like Jesus..., live truly satisfying lives.

“CHOOSE FOR YOURSELVES, WHOM YOU WILL SERVE”

  • “As for me and my household, we will serve Jehovah.” — Joshua 24:15 reminds us why we’ve chosen Jehovah.
  • Jehovah wants us to enjoy life now and forever (Ecclesiastes 3:12, 13).
  • Though created with talents, we’re not designed to rule ourselves or define right and wrong (Ecclesiastes 8:9; Jeremiah 10:23).
  • True happiness comes from living by Jehovah’s standards (Isaiah 48:17, 18).
  • Satan promotes the lie that humans can be happy without Jehovah (Genesis 3:4, 5).
  • The world’s sad condition proves that lie false.
  • By contrast, those who serve Jehovah enjoy satisfying lives.

WHY JESUS CHOSE TO SERVE JEHOVAH

    • After baptism, Jesus rejected Satan’s offer of world rulership, saying, “It is Jehovah your God you must worship” (Matthew 4:8–10).
    • Jesus chose Jehovah out of deep love (John 14:31).
    • He knew Jehovah is the trustworthy Source of life (Psalm 33:4; James 1:17).
    • Satan is a liar and a murderer, driven by selfishness (John 8:44).
    • Jesus never even considered rebelling (Philippians 2:5–8).
    • Jesus served because it was right and looked forward to vindicating Jehovah’s name and undoing Satan’s damage (Hebrews 12:2).

    WHY JEHOVAH DESERVES OUR WORSHIP
    • Many do not know Jehovah’s appealing qualities or what He has done (Acts 17:19–34).
    • Jehovah is the Life-Giver and Creator, deserving our worship (Acts 17:25–28).
    • He never forces obedience but gives evidence of His love and existence (1 Timothy 2:3, 4).
    • He organizes us in loving congregations for our care (Acts 20:28).
    • Jehovah shows kindness even to those who ignore Him, sustaining their lives (Matthew 5:44, 45).
    • His gifts include love, family, and meaningful work—proof of His love for all humanity (Exodus 34:6).

WHY WE CHOOSE TO SERVE JEHOVAH

    • Like Jesus, we serve Jehovah out of deep love (Matthew 22:37).
    • His qualities—like patience and mercy—move us to lifelong service (Psalm 103:13, 14).
    • It’s the right thing to do and has far-reaching results: sanctifies God’s name, proves Satan a liar, and makes Jehovah’s heart glad (Matthew 4:10; John 17:3).
    • Even young ones can develop strong loyalty and moral courage, as seen in Jane and Pam’s story.
    • Jehovah never forgets those who belong to Him (2 Timothy 2:19).
    • When lies are spread about Jehovah, we defend Him with truth (Psalm 34:1; Isaiah 43:10).
    • Our bold speech and faithful conduct show we serve Him wholeheartedly.
    • Like Paul, we may give up worldly goals to follow Christ (Galatians 1:14; Philippians 3:7, 8).
    • No regrets—only spiritual rewards now and ahead!
    • Sister Julia chose to serve Jehovah over a career in opera.
    • Despite criticism, she says: “I have peace of mind” and trusts Jehovah will fulfill her heart’s desires (Psalm 145:16).
    • Serving Jehovah gives meaning and satisfaction, now and forever.

    CONTINUE SERVING JEHOVAH

    • Time is short—the opportunity to choose Jehovah won’t last forever (Hebrews 10:37; 1 Corinthians 7:29).
    • We must not only start following Jesus, but keep following him (Matthew 16:24).
    • Trials are temporary compared to the blessings ahead (Psalm 35:27).
    • Some young ones struggle, but serving Jehovah brings lasting joy, unlike the temporary pleasures of the world.
    • Gene’s story shows how returning to Jehovah brought real peace and answered prayers.
    • Happy is the one Jehovah draws close to Him (Psalm 65:4).
    • Let’s echo Joshua’s firm resolve:
“As for me and my household, we will serve Jehovah.” — Joshua 24:15

I was trying to remember the point about Jehovah never forces obedience on us, but instead he gives us evidence of his love. I did a quick search in this summary, and there it was, I pulled up the article and reread that subheading for more encouragement that I needed to get through this week. Thanks for providing this service and for making it available to us for quick reflection on the main points from the WT article.

What a great article. Thanks for the crossword to reinforce what I’ve learned. I’ve been feeling like my sacrifices go unnoticed sometimes. But Jehovah knows.

I’m so proud to be on Jehovah’s side even when the world doesn’t understand, I know who I serve, and why.
