Imitate the Faithful Angels

SA19 - Imitate the Faithful Angels

Although angels are more powerful and holy than we are, we share many traits with them..., like free will, personalities, and a need to worship Jehovah. Because of these similarities, we can learn valuable lessons from their humility, love, endurance, and efforts to keep the congregation clean.

IMITATE THE FAITHFUL ANGELS

  • Jehovah invited us into a family that includes millions of faithful angels (Daniel 7:9, 10).
  • Angels are vastly different from us — older, more powerful, holier (Job 38:4, 7; Luke 9:26).
  • Yet, we have much in common with them: free will, personal names, distinct personalities, and a need to worship Jehovah (1 Peter 1:12).
  • Their example can inspire us in humility, love for people, endurance, and keeping the congregation clean.

THE ANGELS ARE HUMBLE

    • Faithful angels obey Jehovah humbly despite their great power and wisdom (Psalm 103:20).
    • They do not seek glory or recognition, even when not named for their great deeds (Genesis 32:24, 29; 2 Kings 19:35).
    • Only two angels are named in the Bible: Michael and Gabriel (Daniel 12:1; Luke 1:19).
    • When the apostle John tried to worship an angel, the angel humbly redirected praise to Jehovah and called John a “fellow slave” (Revelation 19:10).
    • Angels correct with kindness, not harshness.

How we can imitate this humility:

    • Serve without boasting or seeking credit (1 Corinthians 4:7).
    • Don’t feel superior due to experience or privileges (Luke 9:48).
    • When counseling others, speak respectfully and compassionately (Colossians 4:6).

    THE ANGELS LOVE PEOPLE

    • Angels rejoice when a sinner repents (Luke 15:10).
    • They support the preaching work and may direct us to receptive individuals (Revelation 14:6).
    • While not directly visible, their support is often felt.

    Examples:

    • A 12-year-old girl in Peru called a woman who had just prayed for help—she started studying the Bible.
    • A caregiver in Italy found truth through an unexpected Witness—right after praying.
    • A man who prayed for truth was contacted the next day by Witnesses selling their car.
    • How we can imitate their love:
    • Rejoice when someone is reinstated (2 Corinthians 2:6-8).
    • Wholeheartedly support the preaching work (Ecclesiastes 11:6).
    • Help others in their ministry, especially the inexperienced or infirm.
    • Even when limited in mobility, we can adapt—like Sara in India, who conducted 70 studies by phone while bedridden.

    THE ANGELS SHOW ENDURANCE

    • Angels have endured wickedness and injustice for thousands of years (Genesis 3:1; Jude 6).
    • They’ve seen widespread rebellion but remain joyful and loyal (Daniel 10:13).
    • They trust in Jehovah's timing to end wickedness.

How we can imitate their endurance:

    • Remain faithful despite injustice or opposition (Galatians 6:9).
    • Pray for Jehovah’s spirit, which produces patience and joy (Galatians 5:22).
    • Do not give up—Jehovah will support and strengthen us (Hebrews 13:6).

THE ANGELS HELP KEEP THE CONGREGATION CLEAN

    • Angels are actively involved in separating “the wicked from among the righteous” (Matthew 13:47-49).
    • Their role is to protect the purity of the congregation, though problems may still arise.

How we can imitate their concern for cleanness:

    • Do our part to keep the congregation spiritually clean (Psalm 101:3).
    • Encourage those who sin to speak with the elders (James 5:14, 15).
    • If they don’t, inform the elders out of love, so they can help.
    • When someone is removed, we stop keeping company with them, which can help them return to their senses (1 Corinthians 5:9-13).
    • If they repent, we rejoice with Jehovah and the angels (Luke 15:7)

    FINAL ENCOURAGEMENT

    • What a privilege to work with faithful angels!
    • Let us imitate their humility, love for people, endurance, and concern for congregation cleanness.
    • By doing so, we can remain part of Jehovah’s family of worshippers forever.
