The Timeless Rock
SA26 - Make Jehovah Your Rock

One day, Lila, a curious young girl, along with her father and mother, embarked on a hike to the great rock formation known in the area as "The Eternal Guardian," a massive, immovable rock that had stood unchanged for as long as anyone could remember.

The day began early, with the sun just peeking over the horizon, casting long shadows and golden hues over the village. Lila, filled with excitement, packed her small bag with essentials: some snacks, a water flask, and her sketchbook to draw the great rock. Her parents, seasoned in these treks, checked their gear one last time, ensuring they had everything needed for the hike.

As the sun climbed higher, the day grew hot, and the shade became sparse. They had to manage their water carefully. Her parents talked to Lila about resourcefulness and planning, paralleling the need to manage one's spiritual resources through study and meditation so that they would be ready during times of difficulty or trials.

Closer to the rock, the terrain became more rugged with loose stones. Each step had to be calculated to avoid twisting an ankle. At one point, her dad, who was leading, made a misstep and took a small tumble, falling to his knees. He quickly sprang up and cautioned the others to watch out for the tricky terrain. Her mother, by her side, mentioned that as they carefully trekked up the mountain, one must take the same careful steps in life's journey, ensuring each move is grounded in stability—much like how one should build their life on the solid foundation of faith.

As they approached the rock, Lila, with wide eyes, listened as her father bellowed, “There it is, ‘The Eternal Guardian!’”

Lila stared at the rock formation and asked, "Why do we call it the Eternal Guardian?"

Her father, sitting on a smaller stone, began the tale. "This rock, much like Jehovah, teaches us about enduring qualities that we should cherish and seek in our lives."

The Refuge: He pointed to a hollow under the rock's overhang. "See there, Lila? Just as this rock provides cool comfort and shelter from the storm, Jehovah is our refuge. When life's storms rage, we can hide in the comfort of His presence, knowing He protects us from lasting harm."

Lila imagined creatures of the forest finding safety there during thunderstorms, and she nodded in understanding.

The Reliable Anchor: Her mother then picked up a smooth stone from the ground. "This stone won't move unless something truly powerful acts upon it. Jehovah is like this; He is our reliable anchor. We can trust in His promises because He is unchanging, always there to hear us, support us, and keep His word. Just as this mountain has stood firm through the ages, so does His loyalty to us."

Lila held the stone, feeling its weight and sturdiness, and thought about how comforting it must be to have something so steady in one's life.

The Stable Foundation: Finally, they all sat together at the base of the Eternal Guardian. "Look at how this rock supports the earth around it, how it doesn't shift with the winds or rains," her father continued. "Jehovah's nature is like this rock. He is stable, never deviating from His true self, His purposes, or His love for us. No matter the turmoil in the world, we can look to Him as our foundation, our salvation."

Lila leaned against the cool surface of the rock, feeling its stability. "So, God is like this big rock for us?" she reflected.

"Yes," her mother smiled, "and just as we come here to marvel at this rock, we should always turn to Jehovah in our lives, making Him our rock, our refuge, our anchor, and our foundation."

As they made their way back home, Lila looked back at The Eternal Guardian, now seeing it not just as a part of the landscape, but as a symbol of divine qualities, a reminder of the strength, protection, and consistency that she could always count on, both in nature and in her faith.

Just like this article and the many scriptural references contained within, the rock, being used as a metaphor for Jehovah's qualities, illustrates to Lila how one can find comfort, reliability, and stability in their relationship with Jehovah, mirroring the enduring presence of the rock in their physical world.

Br Ruy, career changes can definitely feel like stepping on rough terrain, but staying grounded in Jehovah’s guidance will help you navigate through it. I also went through a career change, and it wasn’t easy, but being able to do more in my service to Jehovah and taking on full-time service has truly brought many blessings. Wishing you strength and faith as you move forward in this new chapter! 🙏
