The Harmony of Requests and ResponsesSA49 - Will Jehovah Answer My Prayers?

What Can We Expect:
After tucking Calvin in and saying prayers together, Vicky kissed him goodnight and quietly made her way down towards the living room. As she cleaned up from the day’s activities, she looked forward to relaxing with some necessary 'me time'. Suddenly Vicky heard the pitter-patter of little feet walking down the hallway, then slowly down the stairs. Vicky braced for what was to follow as Calvin rushed into the living room, his eyes wide with urgency and his words tumbling out in a frantic plea.

"Mom, I can’t find Mr. Snuggles!” Mr. Snuggles was Calvin’s worn and tattered, yet still, his favorite teddy bear. “It's an emergency! Please, please find him for me!" Calvin pleaded; his face flushed with worry.

Vicky looked around, astonished that she hadn’t realized that Mr. Snuggles hadn’t been a part of their bedtime ritual. Yet, sensing the urgency in his voice, she immediately sprang into action. Together, they searched every nook and cranny, retracing their steps until at last, the beloved Mr. Snuggles was found. Calvin's face lit up with joy as his mother, pulling her arm out from underneath the couch, said, “Look what I found,” she handed him the cherished toy, realizing that to him, it was indeed a crucial need, for there would be no sleep without the aid of Mr. Snuggles.

As Calvin's mother handed him the rediscovered Mr. Snuggles, a radiant smile of pure joy spread across his face. Clutching the soft toy close to his heart, Calvin's eyes sparkled with gratitude and relief. In that moment, the teddy bear transformed from a simple stuffed animal to a beacon of comfort and security. Calvin couldn't help but shower his mother with hugs, expressing his heartfelt appreciation for her swift and understanding response to his urgent plea. The warmth of his mother's love and the reassurance of his cherished teddy bear created a cocoon of happiness around him, turning a moment of frantic distress into a distant memory.

What Does Jehovah Expect:
As soon as the public speaker said, “Amen!” the congregation of Argyle erupted into audible expressions of happiness and joy that the afternoon meeting had come to a close, and little Imani rushed to greet her friends. Moments later, she approached her mother holding a full-sized Snickers candy bar. “Mom, can I have this? Sister Oldenridge asked me to ask you if I can have it. Can I have it, pleeeze?” Her mother, Cynthia, discerning that this would no doubt spoil her dinner, gently smiled, and said, "Sweetheart, I know you want that candy, but I’m afraid that it will spoil your dinner. How about we save it for after dinner?” Cynthia stretched out her hand and gave Imani the look of, "Hand it over!"

Imani's face fell, and a fleeting cloud of disappointment crossed her features as her mother gently explained that the tempting candy bar would have to wait. She had envisioned the immediate joy of savoring the chocolate, caramel, and peanuts with all its sweetness, but now, patience was the price she had to pay.

However, as they drove home and even afterward when Imani helped her mother set the dinner table, a surprising transformation occurred within Imani. Her initial disappointment gradually gave way to a sense of anticipation and excitement. Unbeknownst to Imani, she was learning a painful yet valuable lesson. Her mother's wisdom, though initially met with resistance, unfolded into a valuable lesson in self-discipline, turning a twinge of disappointment into a journey of learning about the value of patience, hard work, and the joy of delayed gratification.

Why We May Need to Adjust:
Late one evening, Jayla approached her father with a desperate plea. "Daddy, I’m scared, I need a dog to protect me from monsters under my bed!" she insisted, her eyes wide with fear.

Upon hearing Jayla's plea, her father, a wise and caring man, dropped everything he was doing. With a reassuring smile, he held her hand as they both cautiously walked back into her bedroom. He told Jayla to wait at the door, and he slowly crossed the threshold of her doorway, entered the room, and knelt down, pulling out his mobile phone and turning on the flashlight. He diligently inspected under the bed and in every corner. From a distance, Jayla watched in awe as her father, the fearless monster hunter, declared her room safe and free from any lurking creatures.

As Jayla's father assured her that there were no monsters under her bed, a tinge of disappointment shadowed Jayla's face. In her vivid imagination, a dog would have been the perfect guardian against unseen threats. She couldn't help but feel a bit bummed that her father hadn't discovered any monsters, as the prospect of having a protective animal by her side was both thrilling and comforting.

Jayla pleaded, “they’re gone now, but they’ll be back! Only a dog can be on guard at all times!” Her father gently explained, "A dog might not be the best solution. However, trust me to keep you safe. Your father is far better than any dog. Let's say a prayer to Jehovah asking him to help you to remain strong because he knows that you can face any challenges that come your way with courage and resilience."

After they prayed together, Jayla felt better; the hallway light was left on, and her father promised to stand at the ready. The denial of her request for a dog left Jayla longing, even though her father's actions aimed at guiding her towards a more practical and resilient path. Her disappointment lingered, but little did Jayla know that her father's wisdom and love would eventually lead her to trust in Jehovah and discover her own inner strength, which was far more powerful than any animal.

Her father's denial, driven by love and understanding, paved the way for Jayla to grow into a brave and capable young woman.

Regarding Our Prayers:
In the parallel realm of faith, we imperfect humans often approach God with frantic prayers, pouring out our deepest desires and fears. Just as a parent responds to a child's pleas, Jehovah, in His infinite wisdom, listens attentively to us. In moments of urgency, He may swiftly grant our requests, recognizing the genuine need and providing comfort and solace.

At times, our prayers may seem urgent, but Jehovah, like a loving parent, knows the bigger picture. Instead of immediately granting our desires, He may have a grander plan, a more complete fulfillment awaiting us. Much like the mother who guides her child to a better, healthier solution, Jehovah may be leading us towards a path of greater blessings, growth, and fulfillment.

Then, there are moments when our pleas are met with apparent silence. It's not that Jehovah is indifferent; rather, He, like a caring parent, understands that some requests may not align with His perfect plan. Just as a parent denies a child's request for a pet dog out of love, Jehovah may deny certain requests to spare us from harm or to lead us towards a higher understanding.

Sometimes, the responses to our prayers may not align with our immediate expectations, just like Jayla's initial disappointment when her father didn't discover any monsters under her bed. However, just as Jayla's father, motivated by love, wisdom, and a deeper understanding, guided her towards a more resilient path, Jehovah, our loving Father, answers our prayers with a higher purpose in mind. His love for us knows no bounds, and He will never abandon us, even if the immediate response doesn't match our expectations. (Psalm 9:10)

Very upbuilding, and I needed this right now.

I couldn’t have said it any better Lucien. I loved this weeks stories so much.

Jehovah promises He will listen to us when we pray to Him. It doesn’t mean that He will grant us all our requests but He will never ignore us when we speak to Him. What a loving Father! What a great example He sets for us!

Cool story! It’s like a puzzle with three pieces that fit together along with the Watchtower. It helps me to see that just because my prayers are not answered, doesn’t mean that Jehovah is not with me, guiding me. Super interesting and easy to get into! Thanks!
