Jesus in Your Way of Thinking

By studying Jesus’ mental disposition..., his attitude, mindset, and obedience to God's will..., we can better understand and imitate Jehovah’s thinking. Doing so equips us to resist sinful tendencies, cultivate humility, and maintain a sound mind through prayerful reliance on Jehovah.

IMITATE JEHOVAH AND JESUS IN YOUR WAY OF THINKING

  • “Arm yourselves with the same mental disposition” — Peter encouraged Christians to adopt Christ’s mindset, especially in the face of suffering. (1 Peter 4:1)
  • Loving Jehovah involves the whole heart, soul, strength, and mind — including our way of thinking. (Luke 10:27)
  • We can understand God’s thinking better by studying “the mind of Christ”, since Jesus perfectly reflects Jehovah. (1 Corinthians 2:16)
  • To have “the mind of Christ,” we must meditate on Jesus’ personality and imitate his humility and obedience.
  • Jesus was focused on doing Jehovah’s will and refused to be distracted — even though it meant suffering.
  • Peter, after learning from Jesus firsthand, urged Christians to adopt the mental disposition of Christ — a weapon in the fight against sin.
  • We will now consider how to imitate Jehovah and Jesus by (1) thinking in agreement, (2) being humble, and (3) being sound in mind through prayer.

IMITATE JEHOVAH’S WAY OF THINKING

    • Peter once failed to reflect Jehovah’s thinking when he tried to talk Jesus out of suffering. (Matthew 16:22)
    • Jesus corrected him firmly: “You think, not God’s thoughts, but those of men.” (Matthew 16:23)
    • Self-sparing thinking was not from Jehovah — Peter had to learn to align his thoughts with God’s will.
    • Later, Peter showed spiritual growth by adjusting his viewpoint when told to preach to the Gentile Cornelius.
    • When he recognized God's will, Peter obeyed without objection and helped Gentiles become followers. (Acts 10:28, 29)
    • Years later, Peter urged Christians to “think in agreement” — reflecting Jehovah’s thoughts expressed in the Bible. (1 Peter 3:8)
    • Instead of discouraging spiritual goals, we should support fellow believers who prioritize Jehovah’s service. (Matthew 6:33)

    BE HUMBLE
    • On the night before his death, Jesus washed the feet of his apostles — an act of extraordinary humility. (John 13:4, 5)
    • Even Judas’ feet were washed, showing Jesus’ humility was sincere and not selective.
    • Jesus taught: “If I, the Lord and Teacher, washed your feet, you also should wash the feet of one another.” (John 13:12-14)
    • Peter later performed miracles but directed all praise to Jehovah and Jesus, not himself. (Acts 3:12-16)
    • He encouraged Christians to “clothe yourselves with humility” — a reminder of Jesus’ towel-wrapping gesture. (1 Peter 5:5)
    • True humility involves our innermost thoughts — not just words. It means serving others out of love, not for praise.
    • When we serve quietly and joyfully, without seeking attention, we give evidence of being truly humble. (Matthew 6:1-4)

    BE “SOUND IN MIND”

    • Being “sound in mind” means making balanced, spiritually healthy decisions that reflect Jehovah’s thinking. (1 Peter 4:7)
    • Such a person knows that nothing is more important than their relationship with Jehovah.
    • They rely on God through regular, humble prayer, recognizing their limitations.
    • Peter once failed to listen when Jesus warned him of the coming trial. Instead of praying, he was overconfident — and he fell. (Matthew 26:31-41)
    • Jesus, though perfect, prayed repeatedly, drawing strength to obey Jehovah. (Matthew 26:39, 42, 44)
    • Peter later learned the value of prayer, persisting in prayer with others while awaiting the holy spirit. (Acts 1:13, 14)
    • He urged Christians: “Be sound in mind, and be vigilant with a view to prayers.” (1 Peter 4:7)
    • To be sound in mind, we must keep praying, especially when making important decisions — trusting Jehovah knows best.

I don’t really know how I found this site but very happy I did…I was baptized in 2010. I’m now a regular pioneer. I’ve never been happier and divorced! I just love this site…what good information is added to our studies. Nice to get deeper or more information on these articles.
