SA37 - A Letter That Can Help
Us to Endure Faithfully to the End
The letter to the Hebrews, written by the apostle Paul during a period of relative peace, provided timely counsel to help early Christians in Judea build faith and endurance as they prepared for the foretold destruction of the Jewish system of things. Today, we too can benefit from its practical advice as we face an even greater tribulation foretold in the Bible.
- Key Scripture: “We hold firmly down to the end the confidence we had at the beginning.” - Hebrews 3:14
- Learning from the letter to the Hebrews helps us to endure faithfully as the end of this system approaches.
- The Hebrew Christians endured intense persecution, economic hardships, and growing opposition after Jesus’ death.
- Around 61 C.E., Paul’s inspired letter provided timely counsel during a brief period of peace, preparing Christians for future tribulation.
“PRESS ON TO MATURITY”
- Jewish Christians faced challenges adapting to changes in worship:
- The Mosaic Law, once central, was no longer valid after Jesus’ death.
- Even mature Christians, like Peter, struggled to adjust. (Hebrews 10:1, 4, 10)
- Opposition came from two fronts:
- Jewish leaders accused Christians of apostasy.
- Some professed Christians advocated for continuing Mosaic practices to avoid persecution. (Galatians 6:12)
- Paul’s counsel:
- Dig deeper into God’s Word to strengthen discernment. (Hebrews 5:14-6:1)
- Using Hebrew Scriptures, Paul highlighted the superiority of Christian worship. (Hebrews 1:5-13)
- Relevance for today:
- We must reject worldly opinions and reasonings that conflict with Jehovah’s standards. (Hebrews 13:9)
- Regular personal study strengthens faith and spiritual maturity. (Psalm 1:2; Hebrews 11:1, 6)
“HAVE FAITH FOR THE PRESERVING OF OUR LIVES”
- Faith was crucial for Hebrew Christians to act on Jesus’ warning to flee Jerusalem when encamped armies appeared. (Luke 21:20-24)
- Obedience to congregation direction required trust, not just obligation. (Hebrews 13:17)
- Modern application:
- Strengthen trust in Jehovah’s organization now to confidently follow lifesaving instructions during the great tribulation. (Matthew 24:45)
- Avoid materialism and focus on living simply, recognizing wealth cannot save us. (Hebrews 13:5; Ezekiel 7:19)
“YOU NEED ENDURANCE”
- Hebrew Christians endured growing persecution, including fanatical opposition from Jewish leaders.
- Paul’s counsel on endurance:
- Trials are part of Jehovah’s loving discipline and can refine vital qualities. (Hebrews 12:7, 11)
- Focus on the end result of trials, not just the hardship.
- Paul, speaking from personal experience, encouraged reliance on Jehovah for strength. (Hebrews 13:6; 2 Corinthians 11:23-25)
- Modern lessons:
- Prepare for inevitable persecution by deepening trust in Jehovah and supporting fellow believers enduring trials. (2 Timothy 3:12; Hebrews 10:33)
- Relief for faithful worshippers will come in Jehovah’s due time. (2 Thessalonians 1:7, 8)
CONCLUSION
- Paul’s letter helped first-century Christians prepare for tribulation by:
- Gaining a deeper knowledge of Scripture to reject false teachings.
- Strengthening faith to follow direction promptly.
- Viewing trials as opportunities for spiritual training.
- By applying this inspired counsel, we too can endure faithfully to the end. (Hebrews 3:14).
Thank you for reading,
-Soli Jehova Gloria (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Wow we really learned the challenges Hebrew Christians faced in maintaining their faith despite opposition and changing circumstances. The emphasis on pressing on to spiritual maturity is a great reminder.
My goal is to continue to press on to maturity. This Watchtower was very timely .
Great preparation for the inevitable persecution that we will encounter, allowing us to deepen our trust in Jehovah.
